As a Personal Support Worker (PSW), you will join in keeping with the mission and values of the organization as a member of the interdisciplinary team. In this position, you will perform assigned duties related to patient care as well as provide assistance and support to the health care team on the unit in a patient-focused environment, in accordance with the Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) standards, policies and procedures. The purpose of the Float Department is to provide additional support to GBGH’s three inpatient departments: 2 East - Acute Medicine, 2 North - Medical/Surgical and 1 North - CCC/Palliative/Rehab.
EDUCATION:
- Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Personal Support Worker Certificate received from an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology program OR received from an Accredited PSW Educational Program.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Previous experience in a health-related setting
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Tact, discretion and team skills
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history is a requirement
- Able to organize tasks within time allotted
- Able to work efficiently, effectively and safely in a controlled environment
- Aware of and acknowledge limitations within the role
- Knowledgeable of the policies and procedures directly associated with role
- Maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work effectively with patients, colleagues and management
ASSETS:
- Previous experience in Complex Continuing Care setting and/or Long Term Care setting
- Knowledge of Patient Bill of Rights
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- GPA or equivalent training
- UFirst Training
- Bilingual in English and French
HOURS OF WORK
Permanent Casual. Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the SEIU collective agreement.

COMPENSATION

- Hourly rate of pay $32.63 - $33.28, vacation accrual starting at two (2) weeks per year, with an additional 14% in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of paid vacation. Paid vacation percentage increases throughout your tenure.
